Hickenlooper Statement on Upcoming Iran War Powers Vote

Mar 3, 2026

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper released the following statement in advance of the upcoming Iran War Powers Resolution vote in the Senate:

“I’m a YES on the bipartisan Iran War Powers Resolution. The Constitution is clear: Congress decides if we go to war — not the President.

“There has been no articulated goal, strategy, or endgame from the Trump administration for this war that has already resulted in the loss of service members and innocent lives. They very clearly don’t have one.

“The American people don’t want another forever war in the Middle East. They want President Trump to live up to his promises to make life affordable for working families.”

The Senate is scheduled to take up the bipartisan Iran War Powers Resolution this week. Last June, Hickenlooper voted in favor of a similar War Powers Resolution to prevent the use of military force against Iran unless explicitly authorized by Congress. In January, Hickenlooper also voted in favor of a Venezuela War Powers Resolution to block the use of U.S. Armed Forces to engage in further hostilities within or against Venezuela unless authorized by Congress.
