Restoring Humanity to Our Broken Immigration System
Our immigration system is fundamentally broken – and it’s long past time to fix it. Senator Hickenlooper is committed to building a system that upholds basic decency and the rule of law. No more chaos. No more cruelty. No more unchecked power.
Under the Trump administration, federal immigration enforcement has gone too far. We’ve watched federal agents kill Americans in cold blood, separate families, stomp on due process rights, and stoke chaos in our communities. Senator Hickenlooper has been clear: enforcement without accountability undermines our values and our security.
He believes we can restore humanity to our immigration system while maintaining a secure border and upholding the rule of law. In the Senate, he has been outspoken in the face of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) lawlessness and has demanded a top-to-bottom overhaul of the agency. He has introduced legislation to ban ICE from wearing masks and require them to display clear identification. He has fought to prevent immigration enforcement from targeting schools, hospitals, and places of worship. He’s also pushed for stronger oversight and transparency measures, voted against excessive funding increases for the Department of Homeland Security, and helped families desperately searching for loved ones arrested by ICE.
Senator Hickenlooper has a vision for a better system. He supports commonsense reforms that modernize border management, expand lawful pathways to citizenship, and create a fair, reliable guest worker system that strengthens our economy while protecting American workers. Senator Hickenlooper supports restoring the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program while Congress works on a permanent solution.
The United States has always been a nation of immigrants. Senator Hickenlooper is fighting for an immigration system that reflects that legacy – one that is humane, just, secure, and worthy of our values.
