Legislative Assistant (Climate/Energy)
Colorado Senator John Hickenlooper – a laid off geologist turned brewpub owner turned elected official – seeks a hard-working, entrepreneurial Legislative Assistant to cover Climate and Energy policy, including the Senator’s work on those issues on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Responsibilities include preparing for and staffing the Senator at committee hearings; drafting and developing legislation and amendments; preparing relevant briefing memos; staffing the Senator at meetings and other events; and representing the Senator with constituents, federal agencies, and other outside stakeholders. Qualified candidates should be independent self-starters with strong research and analytical skills and the ability to produce quality work in a fast-paced environment. The ideal applicant will have prior Senate or House experience in a legislative policy role, deep knowledge of relevant policy areas, and strong verbal and written communication skills as well as a sense of humor and positive attitude. As a team, we take the job seriously but not ourselves and are looking for similarly humble-minded teammates who are hungry to roll up their sleeves and get to work on issues that impact Coloradans. Colorado ties and Spanish-language skills are added bonuses. Scheduler
Colorado Senator John Hickenlooper – a laid off geologist turned brewpub owner turned elected official – seeks a Scheduler based in Washington, D.C. The position handles all aspects of the Senator’s D.C. and Colorado schedule, helping to coordinate the Senator’s daily movements, assisting with long-term strategic planning, and managing a Deputy Scheduler. The ideal candidate will be highly organized with great attention to detail, able to exercise discretion, possess strong strategic vision, anticipate changes and reprioritize as needed, and work well in a fast-paced environment. Primary duties include determining the Senator’s daily and long-term schedules; acting as the Senator’s principal liaison with external stakeholders and staff; coordinating travel; overseeing compilation of all briefing materials; and fulfilling some executive assistant responsibilities. This position reports to the Deputy Chief of Staff and works closely with senior staff to align the schedule with the Senator’s priorities. This is not an entry-level position and previous scheduling experience is required; it’d be a great job for someone who has worked as a Deputy Scheduler in the Senate and is looking for growth. Eastern Plains Regional Representative
Colorado Senator John Hickenlooper — a laid off geologist turned brewpub owner turned elected official — seeks an Eastern Plains Regional Representative to serve as an outreach liaison for communities across the Eastern Plains region of Colorado. This role will require travel throughout the region.
The main responsibilities of this position include:
- Building and maintaining relationships with community leaders and local government representatives;
- Attending community events to gather information and update stakeholders on the Senator’s work;
- Ensuring local priorities and issues are communicated to the team;
- Consulting on and staffing the Senator’s events in the region;
- Other duties as assigned to support the outreach team
Ideal candidates are self-driven, critical thinking, excellent communicators (written and verbal), and understand the communities across the Eastern Plains. We value proactiveness, big-picture thinking, and the ability to collaborate.
