WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper released the following statement after voting in support of Senator Tim Kaine’s War Powers Resolution, which would block the use of the U.S. Armed Forces to engage in further hostilities within or against Venezuela unless authorized by Congress.
“Congress, not the President, decides when this country goes to war.
“Nicolás Maduro is a corrupt, tyrannical leader who has trampled the democratic will of the Venezuelan people. But this U.S. sponsored regime change has opened the door to one more ‘forever war’ – a chapter we swore was behind us.
“Americans don’t want their government spending millions of dollars to ‘run Venezuela.’ They want affordable groceries and health care and good-paying jobs. It’s time Washington listened.”
