Hickenlooper, Colleagues Introduce Bipartisan Sanctions on Russia

Apr 1, 2025

Legislation would impose sanctions against Russia if it doesn’t engage in peace negotiations with Ukraine

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper joined a bipartisan group of senators to introduce the bipartisan Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025, which would impose sanctions against Russia if it stalls peace negotiations with Ukraine.

“Ukrainians are fighting for their very existence,” said Hickenlooper. “Russia needs to end its invasion in order to create lasting peace with Ukraine.”

The sanctions would be imposed if Russia refuses to engage in good faith negotiations for a lasting peace with Ukraine or initiates another effort, including military invasion, that undermines the sovereignty of Ukraine after peace is negotiated. The legislation also imposes a 500 percent tariff on imported goods from countries that buy Russian oil, gas, uranium and other products.

The senators called on the Trump administration to end Russian aggression on Ukraine as a free, democratic nation.
