GIDDY UP-DATE NEWSLETTER: Our August adventures!

Sep 1, 2022

Hey folks!

We recently wrapped up our August travels throughout Colorado, and boy, did we do a lot! From the Front Range to the Western Slope, communities across Colorado are leading the way on everything from conservation and health care to clean energy and affordable housing.

Watch a recap of our swing through Western Colorado HERE, and read more about our time on the road below. 👇

PRESERVING COLORADO’S NATURAL WONDERS

Coloradans love the outdoors, and we want to make sure our state’s natural beauties are here for generations. But with worsening droughts and wildfires, we need to step up our conservation and mitigation efforts. In Grand County, we saw wildfire mitigation and recovery in action. And we joined community leaders to discuss the CORE Act, our bill to protect over 400,000 acres of Colorado public lands.

In Steamboat Springs, we talked about how we can address water shortages and droughts. And in Adams County, we learned about how we’re making sure Commerce City gets clean drinking water. Our Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and Inflation Reduction Act will improve water infrastructure and make our communities more climate resilient.

ACCELERATING OUR CLEAN ENERGY TRANSITION

Colorado is already at the forefront of our clean energy economy. In Durango, we took a ride on the city’s first vehicle-to-grid electric school bus and saw how residents are reducing their carbon footprints with energy efficient technologies. Our climate bill will help homes nationwide switch to electric appliances and save money!

At the Delta Montrose Electric Association, we talked about how the Inflation Reduction Act will help rural electric co-ops transition to renewable energy and create good-paying jobs.

ENSURING HIGH-QUALITY HEALTH CARE

From our biggest cities to our smallest neighborhoods, communities are working hard to provide quality, affordable health care to all who need it. In Denver, we met with reproductive health care advocates, providers, and patients to discuss how to support the surge in patients seeking abortion care in Colorado.

Our Inflation Reduction Act saves Coloradans money on health insurance and will lower costs for prescription drugs. At Clear Creek County Health and Wellness Center in Idaho Springs, we saw how $1 million we secured for a brand new health center will provide critical care to the community. And in Norwood, we discussed supporting rural clinics.

GROWING LOCAL ECONOMIES

Across the state, communities are creating jobs and driving local economies. We got to see how Westside Mobile Home Park in Durango is fighting back against unscrupulous developers. Residents recently purchased the land from underneath their homes, making housing in their community more affordable.

In Montrose, Mayfly Outdoors is helping build a thriving outdoor recreation economy. And in Rico, Main Street small businesses are creating jobs. By equipping communities with the right tools, we can ensure every neighborhood – big and small – has the resources to grow and thrive.

Hearing about YOUR priorities is the most important part of the job. I’m looking forward to returning to Washington to fight for YOU and issues that are front-of-mind for Coloradans. Be sure to follow us on TwitterFacebook, and Instagram for more updates. Can’t wait to see you again soon!

Sincerely,

Senator John Hickenlooper
