Hickenlooper Secures Updated Wolf Reintroduction Policy

Feb 15, 2023

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper announced that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) honored his request for a special Endangered Species Act designation for gray wolves in Colorado. This rule would allow land owners, agriculture producers and state land managers more flexibility to properly manage wolves, protecting livestock and domestic animals.

“This updated designation will help our farmers and ranchers as the state continues to improve our wolf management efforts,” said Hickenlooper.

In 2021, the senator sent a letter to Interior Secretary Deb Haaland and USFWS Principal Deputy Director Martha Williams requesting a Section 10 designation to improve state and stakeholder management capabilities.
