Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet released the following statements after President Joe Biden announced his intent to appoint Lily Griego to serve as the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Region 8 Administrator:
“Lily Griego is a dynamic public servant who will ensure HHS coordinates with Western communities as we end this pandemic and expand access to quality health care,” said Hickenlooper.
“President Biden could not have made a better choice for the position of HHS Region 8 Administrator,” said Bennet. “Lily is a dedicated public servant who has devoted her career to serving communities in the West and helping our country live up to its highest ideals. I look forward to working with her in this new role to ensure that HHS programs, like Medicare and Medicaid, work best for Colorado communities and the rest of the region.”
Griego led multiple state teams during the 2020 Census in Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming and all congressional affairs for the region. From 2017-2018, Griego served as a Colorado Community Liaison in Bennet’s office where she worked on critical policy issues, including health care, equality, and immigration. She has extensive background in the public and private sector with land-use, environmental protection, and finance regulations, enforcement and community education in Colorado. Griego earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in history from the University of Colorado at Denver. She is a native of Colorado.
