Did you hear the news? The Biden Administration has decided to keep Space Command in Colorado Springs!
In case you don’t know the whole story, let us fill you in: just days before leaving office, President Donald Trump made the decision to move Space Command from Colorado to Alabama. Poof! Just like that. The decision was, of course, political – he even admitted it himself!
We couldn’t let that stand. So for two and a half years Senator Bennet and I have been working tirelessly in a bipartisan fashion to make the case for Colorado, and after two investigations and rigorous review by the Department of Defense, the administration has made the decision that’s in our country’s best interest. And to make things even better, the Pentagon just said that Space Command will reach full operational capability in August!
We’ve said it from the jump: the fastest and most cost-effective way to get Space Command to full operational capability was for it to remain in Colorado – and boy were we right! 🤠
This decision firmly rejects the idea that politics should determine basing decisions central to our national security. We’re grateful to the service members and civilians who serve at Space Command, keeping us safe at the cutting edge of this new frontier.
Senator John Hickenlooper
