Hey Colorado,
February marks Black History Month, a time when we celebrate the incredible impacts and rich cultural contributions Black Americans have made to our nation, and honor the fundamental fight for justice and equality.
Black Coloradans have always been at the forefront of our state’s history. Check out my HikTok where I spotlight the many, many impacts of Black Coloradans who have transformed the Centennial State for the better, and what we’re doing to protect Black history in Colorado:
Black Coloradans also propel our local economies and spur innovation through small businesses! In Washington, the first bill I introduced on the Senate floor was to help increase access to capital to underserved markets – which Black entrepreneurs say is one of the biggest challenges to starting a new business due to the persistent racial biases and historic, systemic racism.
This week, I met with Black small business owners from around Colorado to talk shop and discuss how Washington can better support Black-owned small businesses!
Black history is American history. This month, and every month, we honor the many achievements of Black Americans and recommit ourselves to the fight for equal rights for all.
