CONSTITUENT ADVOCATE - PUEBLO, COLORADO
Senator John Hickenlooper – a former geologist turned brewpub owner turned elected official – seeks a full-time Constituent Advocate – based in Pueblo, Colorado – to provide exceptional constituent services to all Coloradans. The role serves as a frontline liaison between constituents and federal agencies, such as United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Social Security Administration (SSA), the Veterans Administration (VA) and a variety of other federal agencies.
Principal responsibilities of this position include:
- Responding to specific constituent inquiries that involve navigating federal agencies or processes on behalf of constituents.
- Creative problem solving for constituents, some of whom have deadline driven and/or multiple needs.
- Working within the Senate system for caseload management (Intranet Quorum, IQ software).
- Managing an average caseload of 130+ cases that require attention from intake to completion.
- Managing outreach events, such as “office hours in the community” to respond to casework in the field or with a specific population, e.g. veterans.
- Representing the office in the community, conducting local ICE oversight, and special projects as needed.
Ideal candidates can work independently and are able to multi-task and prioritize cases on an ongoing basis. In addition, the job demands excellent customer service skills with the ability to engage with constituents in an empathetic, compassionate, patient and caring manner. The job also requires maintaining strict privacy requirements and the ability to remain discreet. Being bilingual in English and Spanish is a preference. Finally, the position requires having a strong sense of boundaries in order to serve constituents in the most professional manner. This position is open to candidates based in Colorado, preferably in Pueblo County, or southern El Paso County. Because there is no physical office, the role requires the facilitation of in person office hours at public facilities about once a week, to provide casework services. In addition, you will need to represent the office at community events, such as resource fairs and agency meetings. Travel to the Colorado Springs office approximately once a month for team meetings is required. Travel expenses are reimbursed.
As a team, we take the job seriously, but not ourselves and we are looking for similarly humble-minded teammates who are hungry to roll up their sleeves and get to work on issues that impact our fellow Coloradans.
Diverse candidates are encouraged to apply. We are an equal opportunity employer and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, age, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability. The salary is $60,000 and includes healthcare, retirement, federal student loan benefits for those who qualify, and generous paid time off. This position reports to the Director of Constituent Affairs.
To apply, please email a resume and a 200 word statement explaining why you would be an ideal candidate for this position to Employment@hickenlooper.senate.gov
