Mar 30, 2021

Denver — Today, Colorado U.S. Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet released the following joint statement after President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Regina Rodriguez to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.

“We are pleased that President Biden will nominate Regina Rodriguez to serve as Colorado’s next U.S. District Court Judge. Regina is an exceptionally qualified nominee, and her long track record of community service and pro-bono work demonstrates a deeply-held commitment to Colorado’s children, working families, and underserved communities. With her distinguished career and years of public service, we are confident she will make an outstanding contribution to the U.S. District Court.

“We applaud the Biden Administration for announcing a slate of nominees today, including Regina, who will bring a wide-range of life and professional experiences to the federal bench.”

Hickenlooper and Bennet recommended Rodriguez for the U.S. District Court seat in February. In addition to her legal background, Rodriguez was a founding member of Latinas First Foundation, served on the Board of Directors for the Family Star Montessori, and was a Founding Board Member of Colorado Youth at Risk.

Biden announced his intent to nominate Rodriguez alongside 10 other judicial nominees who represent the full diversity of the American people. Rodriguez is the daughter of a Mexican American father and a Japanese American mother. If confirmed, Rodriguez would be the first federal district court judge in the District of Colorado of Asian American descent.
